Happy 56th Independence Day Nigeria! It has been 56 years of freedom from colonialism. Basking in the Independence day celebration, below are songs that rocked the 1960s and have been remixed. You can let us know which you prefer the original version or the remixed version.


1. Cardinal Rex Lawson- Sawale
He was a band leader, singer and trumpeter. He serenaded us with his hit track ” Sawale” in the 1960s. Feladey did his own version in 1991. Flavour NAbania sampled “Sawale ” in his track “Nwa baby”


2. Sir Dr Victor Olaiya- Baby Jowo
Highlife legend gave us Baby Jowo in the 1960s. This song has been remixed overtime from Art Alade in 1985 to Lieutenant Shotgun in 1992 and the most recent, featured the music legend himself with Tuface Idibia in 2013.


3. Bobby Benson- Taxi Driver
He was an entertainer to the core and had considerable influence over the Nigerian music scene. In the 1960s, his hit ” Taxi driver” made waves. In 1985, Mandy Brown Ojugbana did a remix of the track ” Taxi Driver”.
