Michaela Coel took home the major prize at the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday when her critically praised drama “I May Destroy You” added to its increasing collection of awards.

Michaela Coel won the leading actress prize over a strongly competitive field that includes Letitia Wright (Small Axe), Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People), and Jodie Comer (Killing Eve). In her acceptance speeches, she took time to give special thanks to her crew and its intimacy coach Ita O’Brien.

She was recognised for her performance as Gee Walker in Anthony, a one-off film written by Jimmy McGovern about the life her son might have lived had he not been murdered by two white men in an unprovoked racist attack in a Liverpool park in 2005 when he was 18.
