Kenyan couple, Ann Wambui and Wilson Mutura who got married in a simple wedding valued to be below a dollar, have been given the opportunity to have an all expense paid honeymoon.
News of their wedding that held on Sunday, January 22 in Nairobi went viral and attracted a lot of attention and sponsors. It was observed that the only thing they spent money on was on their rings.
Ann and Wilson managed to spend 1$ on just two budget wedding rings, as their church – Community Worship Centre, Nairobi – bore few other responsibilities, including getting them their marriage license. The couple had gone ahead to exchange vows in casual wears.
Their ceremony cost so little because Wilson, who works as a fruits vendor could not afford $300 for a better ceremony, and even had to postpone their marriage twice in 2016.
According to BBC Africa, the reception in the country has been so warm that “the couple have received gifts from companies and individuals who were touched by their courage and are [now] expected to go on their honeymoon soon, after a travel agency gave them a five-day break.”
The couple say they are surprised that many people found their story impressive both on Social media and in their country. According to the bride, “I believe money should not stop young people like us from getting married. If people love each other and want to marry they should,”
