Mother unknowingly kills her son by giving him kerosene instead of water

News reports reveal that Mrs Ata Buhari, a mother of five, who sells kerosene, mistakenly killed her 18-month-old only son, Israel when she gave him the content of a plastic bottle laying in her shop.

She mistook the content of the bottle for water, when actually it contained kerosene. The plastic bottle had been similar to the one, her older children brought to the shop earlier.

That was how she gave her 18-months old son kerosene thinking it was water. After the first gulp, Israel spat the remaining kerosene from his mouth drawing his mother’s attention, it was then she realised that it was not water but kerosene that she gave him to drink.

All efforts of her neighbours to restore Israel proved abortive. Even the large volume of palm oil to counter the effect of the substance was not successful, as Israel gave up the ghost before he could be rushed to the hospital.

This incident happened at Iguma Street, Off Medical Stores Road, Benin, Edo State, when Isreal told his mother that he was thirsty.

The father of the child Mr. Buhari Hassan, 36, was said to have been called to the hospital where he met the corpse of his only son.
