AFWN 2017: What attendees said
By Patricia Uyeh
All roads led to the National Theatre, the venue of the African Fashion Week Nigeria Show 2017, which held over the weekend.
It was an avenue set to showcase trending and lovely fashion collections from fashion designers all over Africa.
Tastefully dressed guests that included Nigerian celebrities, fashionistas, professionals and others trooped into hall with different expectations and motives.
While some came to support their favourite fashion designers, others came to have fun. Some others, who were attending the event for the first time, saw it as an opportunity to get ideas to build their brands. Another set of guests came to market their brands and also support Made in Nigeria fashion wears.
At the end of the show, Vanguard Allure spoke with guests about their experience and here are some their responses:
Denrele Edun, popular TV personality, who is also the Co-Host of AFWN, in his usual bubbly self, said;
”I have been bowled over. Tonight, I call it a fashion extravaganza because every piece we have seen on the runway deserves an accolade. It should be appreciated, celebrated and acknowledged. Right now, I would not only say we are at the pinnacle, I would just say we are taking over the fashion industry internationally.”
Stephen Dutton, Group Marketing Manager ABC Wax and Da Viva, who was rocking an Ankara jacket, said:
”It was great. It was interesting. It has been a really good event. It has been well-attended. I estimate it was well-over a thousand people in the hall. It is fantastic. It is great opportunity for us. It’s because we share the same vision for African Fashion Week that we sponsored the show since the very beginning, the inception”
Shade, fashion enthusiast, spoke about the designers, who wowed her with their collections and they include; Fyvve, O’Tra, Mmakamba
Speaking about the show, she added;
”They didn’t start on time but you know that is our way in this country but asides that the show was on point”
