How Davido’s dad secured the release of 200 prisoners in Osun State

Adedeji Adeleke, Nigerian business tycoon and father of pop star, Davido, has helped secure the release of 200 prisoners at the Ilesha Prison in Osun State.

Dr. Adeleke was said to be shocked at the condition of inmates at the prison when he went to visit an embattled politician, who was earlier detained there.
Several inmates were detained for years over matters as simple as N5,000 fines.
Managing Director of Springtime Development Foundation, for which Dr. Adeleke is Chairman, Samuel Oyalabu says the gesture was done out of empathy for these disadvantaged Nigerians.
According to him, a nursing mother was detained along with her baby for owing a paltry sum of N65,000.
However, the foundation did not extend the favour to any inmate that was convicted of any crime.
The Springtime Development Foundation was founded in 1996 and was funded mainly by Adeleke and his late wife, Veronica (Davido’s mum).
The Adeleke family has been in the news in the past few months, especially in Osun State.
APC senator and Davido’s elder uncle, Isiaka Adeleke, passed away while his younger brother, Ademola Adeleke, won the by-election to replace him.
Deji Adeleke is also building a university in his hometown, Ede.
Davido on his part has apparently picked a few lessons from his father’s philanthropy as he too has embarked on some charity works, most notably building a house for ‘Utibe’, a young fan whose rendition of ‘If’ went viral.
