BBOG Campaigner, Oby Ezekwesili calls out President Buhari over silence on deaths of 26 Nigerian women
By Sewe Ishola,
The deafening silence of President Muhammadu Buhari over 26 Nigerian women, who were allegedly sexually abused and murdered while crossing the Mediterranean sea has been called out by former Minister of Education and BBOG campaigner, Oby Ezekwesili.
She took to her Twitter handle to ask why the president kept quiet over such monumental loss, while highlighting the role of true leadership in such an instance.
Ezekwesili, on her Twitter, mentioned the president’s twitter, saying:
.@MBuhari Shocking that you personally have not acknowledged that 26 of the Citizens that you are their President drowned in the Mediterranean Sea and the whole world is talking about it. This is NOT LEADERSHIP, Sir. #EveryCitizensLifeMatters.
.@MBuhari It is CALLOUS for any Leadership to NEVER feel the pains that tragedies bring the way of a people. Can your FG @AsoRock signal to the Nigerian Public that #NigerianCitizensLivesMatter? Can YOU?
I recall our public outrage when during the previous administration, then President rather than acknowledge deaths in a bomb blast tragedy was busy at a Campaign Ground. This FG of Pres @MBuhari NOW REPEATS SAME with our 26 girls that drowned in Mediterranean Sea. What Changed??
Earlier in the week, 26 Nigerian girls mostly aged between 14 and 18 were found dead on a Spanish warship. It was reported that the girls had allegedly been sexually abused before they were murdered.
The Italian government on whose shore the ship landed launched a probe and as at press time, an Egyptian and a Libyan have been arrested in connection to the heinous crime against these Nigerian girls.
