Bayray McNwizu
“I have my bad days, and I am proud of them…” these are the words of Nollywood actress Bayray McNwizu in this Selfie. She also reveals her worst outfit on the red carpet.
What is fashion to you?
I think fashion is being unique to you. It is something you cannot copy, and sometimes you have to think outside the box to create your exclusive fashion. It also depends on the individual and whatever works for them.
How would you describe your style?
My style is crazy; like I go from zero to hundred. I’m a blazer -ripped -jeans kind of girl, but I can go from that to a dress, and it just works for me. I think it is because I am into the arts.
What’s the highest fashion risk you’ve taken?
My dress to Lagos Fashion and Design Week is the highest fashion risk I have taken so far, with me wearing a Newspaper couture dress. The fitting was done on me, and any rip could spoil it all and also it cannot be wet because it was made with paper, so that has been the highest risk I have taken so far where fashion is concerned.
How do you relax?
Travelling, watching a film, swimming and staying with my family help me relax.
Where’s your favourite vacation spot?
I’ll say Borabora and South Africa, because I believe there are beautiful places in Africa and I like to go there when I can. I love Dubai also, but it can be scorching.
Everyone seems to be a fan of South Africa!
Yes, I love it! I love it because it’s white and black mixed and it’s beautiful it helps us get the beauty we need from somewhere closer. With a place like South Africa, you don’t have to go that far to get to experience some beautiful places in the world.
How would you describe your beauty regime?
It is straightforward. I clean my face every night before going to bed. I think that is the most important thing you do every day. Every other regime, I either drink or eat it, but washing my face off any makeup and moisturising always does it.
Do you have a beauty secret that has been working for you?
For me, it’ll be blending and yoga. Yoga, mainly because my work, can get intense and it is easy to want to seek for other alternatives for support like alcohol, since we shoot through the night most times like 3 am, 4 am, and your body is not resting as much as it should. So yoga just helps me ease up the stress, and in the morning I like to take in lots of juice and carrots and cucumber, taking these in the morning makes me feel alive.
How would you describe your eating habit?
Well, I’m not afraid anymore because I think I’ve found a balance for myself. Because I take much juice, I don’t eat in large quantity because I already feel almost full before I start eating. I do not joke with my chocolate, but I know where to draw the line, so I don’t exceed my portion.
What do you always apply to complete your look and make you standout on Red carpets?
I think I pay more attention to my hair in overall look whenever I have to make any public appearance. My hair has to slay, be perfect and on point! But sometimes I’ve had some terrible days, while I am proud of my bad days; I also understand that the right hair for me is everything!
What’s your most significant fashion investment?
I’m sorry for my vanity, but it’ll be my red sole Christian Louboutin and multi-coloured lace- up shoes, Oh my God! They’re beautiful! Anytime I put them on I’m like “damn! You’re worth every single dime!”
Three things we would always find in Bayray’s purse?
Lipstick, chewing gum, and glasses
What’s your worst red carpet appearance?
That’ll be the red tassel dress I wore for My wife & I premiere. I was supposed to wear a pantsuit that day, but unfortunately for me, my pantsuit didn’t fit, so I had to wear the dress. It was too short and that day was breezy hence the dress was just swaying to and to, it was a horrible day for me, but I still smiled on the red carpet (laughs).
What’s your beauty and fashion rule?
For beauty, I’ll say don’t go to bed with makeup. You can even afford not to moisturise the face, but you can’t afford to sleep with the makeup on it . I have no strict fashion rule, just feel if you’re comfortable enough it in, wear it.
What are you passionate about in life?
I’m passionate about helping girls, and I have a foundation that is responsible for that called ‘Girls Rock’. We’ll be going to Ghana very soon to help some of the girls in Kayayei with right clothes and skill acquisition classes, and this is just a way to give them a better option in life instead of being sexual preys.
