I almost left Nollywood because of sexual harassment- Actress, StephNora Okere
By Patricia Uyeh,
Nollywood actress, Steph Nora Okeke, who refused to compared with likes of Genevieve Nnaji and Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, in a recent chat, spoke about sexual harassment in Nollywood and her non-governmental organisation.
According to her, she was sexually harassed by a popular producer who put a knife to her neck, and asked her to strip. She stated further that she couldn’t speak out because she was advised not to. That incident made her to stop going for auditions for 2 years because she was very traumatized.
Speaking to Broadway TV about the traumatic experience, Steph Nora said:
“Yes, I have faced sexual harassment in the industry and that is one of the things that spurred me to set up my NGO.
“If I say I did not, I would be lying. Maybe over the years, I held it back because my family said I should let it go, let it pass.
“Yes I was harassed by a famous producer who actually put a knife by my neck. Let’s not go through that, it’s a story for another day. I actually almost left Nollywood”
