One of the powerful woman in international politics, German Chancellor, Angela Merkel has been re-elected for the fourth time by the parliament.
According to CNN reports, 364 of 709 lawmakers voted to have Merkel reelected, against 315 voting against and 9 abstentions.
Merkel said the words, “I accept the vote,” and is expected to be sworn in on Wednesday, today, 14th March, 2018.
The election is following a 6-month stretch of post-election paralysis.
Her election is a result of the renewed alliance between Merkel’s CDU/CSU and the SPD, which its former leader, Martin Schulz, had ruled out.
Merkel’s fourth time is expected to be her last, and will be formally appointed by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier before taking the oath of office at 1100 GMT.
