5 ways women can celebrate International Men’s Day
Today, November 19, is International Men’s Day (IMD). It is an annual international event celebrated, in over 60 countries of the world.
IMD is an occasion to highlight discrimination against men and boys and to celebrate their achievements and contributions, in particular for their contributions to community, family, marriage, and child care. This year, the theme for International Men’s Day is positive male role models.
Women can be a part of this annual event.
Here are 5 ways to commemorate this day.
Go out of town with your male family members
Celebrate the men in your life who matter the most: the ones who will always be there. Gather your brothers, your brother-in-law, your dad and your uncle and do something with just the male family members. Celebrate family and the important roles each of you have within your family
Encourage your man to inspire the boys positively
Encourage your man or men in your life to teach the boys in their lives the values, character and responsibilities of being a man
Take your favourite male role model out for dinner
In celebration of International Men’s Day, acknowledge a positive male role model in your life or that of your children and take him out. Yours could be your mentor, your father, a colleague or a friend. Recognise somebody who is a positive influence on you, who you respect and take inspiration from.
You might also like to thank some men who are positive male role models in your community or to your children.
Forgive someone or reach out to an old male friend
Perhaps you burned a bridge or nursed a grudge with someone for some time now. Now is the time to make amends. To celebrate men’s emotional well-being, reach out to that person.
Remember a great man and celebrate his life
Today is the perfect day to celebrate a great man. Perhaps you can honour your grandfather by going to his favourite spot and ordering his favourite meal and drink, while sharing memories about him. It would be fun, you know.
