Allure Awards 2018: FEMALE ARTISTE OF THE YEAR – Tiwa Savage
Often regarded as the ‘Queen of pop music’ in Nigeria, Tiwa Savage kicked off 2018 by getting featured on Vogues ‘World 100:
These Are the People Who Are Inspiring Us Right Now’ in February. But while the rumours surrounding her relationship with Wizkid kept the media sphere busy, she had a spectacular 2018.
In spite of the barrage of criticism shot at the mother of one, Tiwa never relented with her music as her brilliant expertise on songs like ‘Tiwa’s Vibe’, ‘Lova Lova’, ‘Diet’ and ‘Get It Now’ remix with Omarion were unmatched.
To round off an already successful year, she headlined her debut UK show at the Indigo, the O2 Arena before a sold-out audience, and won the award for the ‘Best African Act’ at the MTV EMAs in November, ahead of an active list of contenders including Davido.
She then shared the stage with Beyonce and Jay Z, Usher, Pharell Williams, Dbanj, Wizkid, and others at the Global Citizen Festival in South Africa.
Like she had it all planned out, giving the media space more to talk and write about, she debuted as a video vixen in the video of Wizkid’s song ‘Fever’; which in turn garnered over one million views on YouTube in less than a day of its official release.
The video which went viral in split seconds, setting the social media ablaze with divergent opinions and criticism, has continued to enjoy massive TV airplay and continuous rotations on cable TVs around the globe.
