Allure Awards 2018: SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR – The Falcons

January 6,2019
Share:

Nigeria’s national women’s football team, nicknamed the ‘Super Falcons’, last year, proved unbeatable once more, when they overcame the rest of Africa, to clinch their 9th AWCON (Africa Women Cup of Nation). One cannot overemphasise their dominance in Africa as they won the competition back to back.

Although this triumph is the hardest so far, plagued with inadequate preparations, the ‘Falcons’ had to overcome a defeat in the group stage and two penalty shootouts to emerge champions.

Ghana hosted the 2018 competition, and it served as a qualifier for the Fifa Women’s World Cup happening in the summer of 2019.
