Failure shouldn’t cause you to take your life, Betty Irabor counsels

CEO/Publisher of Genevieve magazine, Betty Irabor has admonished anyone who feels lost and suicidal, to speak up and seek help, instead of reaching out for sniper, blade or attempt to jump into the lagoon.

Irabor, who is also a Mental Health Awareness Advocate, expressed sadness at the rising suicide cases in the society, adding that they should find one reason to live and fight to live.

In an Instagram page, she revealed that she once pass through the valley of the shadow of depression and know what it’s like to be clinically depressed. Adding that if she got out, anyone can too.

She wrote: “As the year came to a close, I was filled with a spirit of profound gratitude. If you have never lost your way, you can’t ever understand what it means to be able to finally find your way home.

A few years ago when I bought an iPhone and asked my niece to help me get the hang of it, she said to me ever so tenderly; “whenever you get lost, just try and find your way home”…then she showed me the Home icon.

“I am sad to hear and see so many people going through where I once found myself…The valley of the shadow of depression! It’s a very dark and lonely place and your first instinct is to end it all. You want the endless circle of misery and pain to go away esp as no one gets it. Friends look at you like “Are u the 1st to get depressed” while others think you’re just an attention seeker. Then if you’re a guy, people expect u to MAN up. You even become the butt of jokes for SM trolls.

“Please when you find yourself lost and suicidal don’t reach out for sniper, a blade or attempt to jump into the lagoon…Please seek help, spk up, spk out! Find one reason to live! Fight to live.

“That voice in your head is a lie, you’re not useless, you will rise from these ashes like the Phoenix. If its abt a failed relationship, pray for courage to walk away; no man or woman deserves dying for…Let them go. Neither shld u allow Failure to cause u to take ur life…Get up each time u fail or fall.

“I have been there and know what it’s like to be clinically depressed…I got out, didn’t I? U can too… It starts with the WILL to refuse to give up. Whatever it is, just try to find ur way back HOME…home is wherever hope resides.”
