Celebrities react to election postponement, express disappointment

INEC’s postponement of the 2019 general elections has received knocks from Nigerians from all sectors.

Celebrities are not left out as they have expressed shock and disappointment in the latest development.

In several tweets and Instagram post, some of them revealed their minds.

Actress and movie producer, Uche Jombo-Rodriguez wonedered why INEC had to wait till the last moment before making the announcement after all the preparations from different quarters.

She tweeted: “This is very disappointing @inecnigeria. International observers are in Nigeria, youth corpers assigned to you are sleeping on floor, people travelled to vote, budget spent, It’s been 4years in the making yet you waited till today… Election day to postpone it.”

She however urged all to call on Nigerians not to shift focus, this is a very important election people.

“Come 23rd February #NigeriaDecides2019

Make no mistake this is a very important election people please don’t let today shift your focus. Your vote is your right.

How do you postpone elections with just a few hours to go? Actress, Omoni Oboli, asked. She wondered why INEC chose to make the nation a laughing stock with their action.

She tweeted: “It’s obvious they don’t care about us! How do you postpone elections with just a few hours to go? ?Seriously?!!!

People have travelled far and wide! International observers are here! The whole nation is set and you do this? Why make us a laughing stock?”

On her part, actress, Ireti Doyle called for calm from everybody, and maintain focus. “Smh…I beg let’s stay calm…no knee-jerk reactions no garagara…make we dey look. Next week o, next month o we dey here…

It doesn’t matter how many times the goal post is shifted KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE BALL.” She wrote.

On-air-personality, Toke Makinwa simply asked: “Shey na like dis we go de dey????”

She went further to call on Nigerians not to be distracted adding that they should still come out on February 23 to cast their votes.

“We shall not relent in our resolve for better governance, we shall not be easily distracted. We must vote next week guys, vote out incompetence, out future is no joke!!!! 23rd it is then.”

Ace broadcaster, Chukwuma Aligwekwe Aligwekwe popularly known as Chico said: “This postponement is at best evidence of ineptitude and at worst something much more sinister. Truth told it’s not that surprising seeing as we always struggle when presented with situations that require organisation and management.

Ex-Big Brither Naija housemate, Leo DaSilva simply went philosophical by asking: “Who has One Job every Four years and still fails to do it correctly? “INEC.” He answered.

He continued, “INEC, you always have four years to prepare for Corpers being used for elections. All the money gotten for elections, why can’t you provide suitable accommodation for a night? Why do you treat graduates like this? Is it a crime to serve Nigeria?”—
