My Lagos adventure by Ogun Ogunbiyi

The Easter holidays are always a whirlwind of activities. There is nothing quite like the fresh smell of Diaspora in the air to put the bounce in a girl’s step. Too many events to attend.
Unfortunately, my liver and kidneys are not the organs they used to be; it takes 2-3 business days to recover from a heavy night out, so I have had to pace myself.
Despite all of that, I made it off my couch into the great outdoors.
This is Oddbod and the city – My Lagos Adventure.

The Evolution of “Ogogoro”

I kicked off the festivities spending a perfectly, pleasant evening participating in Ogogoro tasting. Yes, you read that right. Pedro’s is the first of its kind. 100% organic palm spirit, micro-distilled in small batches, and proudly produced in Nigeria.
I love the tradition and evolution of it all, and I have it on good authority (from the connoisseurs) that this version is as smooth as it gets.
The tasting bar is open till 20th May 2019 at Temple Muse (Amodu Tijani, VI). Come have a taste, try a cocktail and generally, fall in love with our ‘local gin’ in an incarnation we can all be proud of.

Arise Fashion Week with Naomi Campbell

Designers, models, stylists, editors, makeup artists and photographers from across the globe, converged in Lagos for the 6th edition of Arise fashion week.
Famous faces like Naomi Campbell, Liya Kebede and Alton Mason, graced the runway. Behind the scenes stylist to the stars (Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian to name a couple) Jenke Ahmed Tailly pulled the designs to the next level. In the audience among the gorgeous Nigerian elite, we had American fashion journalist André Leon Talley and reality star Jordyn Woods. The atmosphere was electric.

I made it in on day one to support my dear friend Ian Audifferen of Tzar Studios, who has perfected the execution of movement and androgyny in his designs. As usual, I am coveting most of the pieces. My other favourites include; the drama from LDA, gorgeous lounge wear from Triple RRR, the genius of NKWO and the iconic t-shirt from Ituen Basi that read “Dear George, I am not doing again”.
A special congratulations go to the winners of the Zenith bank sponsored Designer of the Year award, Deola Sagoe and Kenneth Ize.

Congratulations to all the designers who participated, we appreciated all the evident hard work . Too many amazing looks and inspiration to cover here. I am very much looking forward to the next instalment from Arise.

Homecoming

Sometimes the ultimate entertainment is happening on the big or small screen. For some of us April was loading up to be quite the anxiety filled affair. If you know you know, all I am going to say is Game of Thrones and End Games.
Not to be outdone, our fearless leader Beyoncé dropped smack bang in the middle of this year’s Coachella activities her Netflix movie, Homecoming. A documentary concert film about her 2018 Coachella performance, so epic, some have called it the greatest concert performance of all time. It has thereafter been known simply by one word “Beychella”.
With so much hype surrounding the concert (which I must admit I had not gotten around to watching), and this movie, I gladly accepted the invitation to movie night at my road dawgs.
Disclaimer – I am not a member of the Beyhive. I felt the need to mention I am not a super fan to keep in context what I am going to write next.
This movie was awesome. This woman is an inspiration. Hard working, a creative genius, passionate about what she does and what she represents. Her attention to detail and the demands she puts on herself will literally have you evaluating how you live your life. Then, of course, the music, you would have to be living under a rock to not know some of her greatest hits. I challenge you to resist singing along that is if you don’t find yourself dancing around your living room.
In conclusion, believe the hype. Homecoming is a must see.
