Instagram plans to start hiding likes on posts starting today
Instagram plans to stop showing the number of likes on posts starting today in the US.
This has been implemented in other countries like Australia, Japan and Canada.
If this testing works in the US, they plan to effect the change globally.
With this change, a user won’t be able to see the number of likes on the post of whoever they are following except its theirs.
According to Instagram, the decision to hide your number of likes from others is so that users can
“focus on the photos and videos you share, not how many likes they get.”
Speaking last week at the Wired25 conference about this new development,
The Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said:
“We will make decisions that hurt the business if they help people’s wellbeing and health.”
A study has proven that Instagram is the worst social media platform, linking it to depression and anxiety.
Do you think this is a good move towards reducing anxiety and increasing well being and health?
