‘I’m very sure Burna Boy will win the Grammys’ – Basketmouth

January 10,2020

Nigerian stand-up comedian Basketmouth, says he strongly believes Burna Boy, Nigerian Afrofusion singer, will win the 2020 Grammy Award billed for January 26.

The ace-comedian stated this during an interview with HipTV, where he reflected on his career so far as well in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Burna Boy has been making headlines since he dropped ‘African Giant, his award-winning project.

The 19-track project saw him snagged a nomination for the 2020 Grammys’ ‘Best International Album’ category, taking place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Ahead of the event, Basketmouth joined the fray of others throwing their weight behind the award-winning singer to clinch the prestigious gong,

“He (Burna Boy) is going to win it for sure, I know. I don’t see why he won’t win it,” he said.

“And after he wins it, trust me, it won’t be the last from Nigeria because you know Nigerians, we are very hardworking, we are persistent and we love to win. So, it is going to motivate a colony of artistes that go out there to take all the Grammys.”

The comedian went on to reflect on the just concluded year.

According to him, 2019 marked a watershed in the country’s entertainment, noting that it saw many Nigerians amassed several international recognitions for their works.

“2019 was the birth of Nigerian entertainment to the world. In terms of movies, music, comedies and even literature. Everyone one did well. We’ve been flourishing entertainment-wise and I am honoured to be experiencing this and I know this is the beginning of more to come,” he said.

He also commended Ramsey Noah and Geneieve Nnaji, Nollywood veterans, for their impact on the movie.

“In terms of movies, big congrats to Geneiveve Nnaji. It was just because of the language clause that disqualified ‘Lionheart’, her directorial debut movie, by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). But now that we all know the criteria we are coming back to win the award,” he said.

Basketmouth disclosed he would be collaborating with several others in 2020, adding that fans should expect more projects from him in the new year.

“Definitely a lot will happen in 2020,” he said.
