Iyadunni Collection from Rebecca Odupitan Fashion House: A showcase of Curves, Simplicity and Poise
By Rita Okoye
Rebecca Odupitan Fashion House launched its new collection which is called Iyadunni Collection and it can only be described as a reminder that women love the simple as much as they love the flamboyant styles when it comes to fashion.
The collection has dresses that are designed to be simple to wear, comfortable but of high quality.
The brand’s Chief tailor and Pattern Maker, Rebecca Odupitan worked on the collection and she combined her skills as a pattern maker with tailoring to give the dresses in this collection some much needed simple yet sophisticated look.
Each dress is of full length of various designs for the plus size women who prefer Maxi dresses over short ones.
One of the dresses is made from a material that appears to look like dry lace while also pairing some Ankara fabrics as ruffles to complement the gown. The gown is a round neck gown with some ruffles at the part where sleeves are supposed to be attached.
The shape of the dress is made after the fashion of mermaid style where the upper part and the lower parts are created to give the illusion of a mermaid.
The hem of the dress also has some little ruffles. This dress is one of those dresses one can slip into when one has some outings that are less important for a dress down.
The dresses have pockets on both the left and right sides of the dress with a zipper attached to the dress at the back.
Rebecca is quite known for her simple, relatable designs which have won the hearts of many in the plus size community. Rebecca’s flair for pattern making was what was used in getting the shapes and how other design elements were to look like even before the dresses are made.
Her knowledge of fabrics and trends are showcased in the way she expertly combined Dry Lace with Ankara and cotton. Ruffles are the in-thing at the moment in the fashion world and it is good to see how she incorporated them to the dress. This adds some form of aesthetics to the dress which would have been bare otherwise.
Rebecca’s tailoring skills shone through in the finishing on these dresses. The pockets are sewn in such a way that only the wearer can tell that there is a pocket thus giving the illusion that there is none. The linings are cotton to ensure breathability on the skin and for the wearer to be comfortable in case they have to wear for long hours.
The Iyadunni collection is truly a reminder of the amount of mindfulness and attention to details that Rebecca puts into all her fashion pieces.
