Bad Image Prevents Me From Landing Endorsement Deals- Terry G
Gabriel Amanyi, a Nigerian singer better known as Terry G, says the negative image that was cast on him, during the peak of his career, prevented him from getting endorsement deals.
The ‘Free Madness’ crooner vented his mind during an Instagram Live session, where he revealed why he went off the grid in the country’s music space.
The 34-year-old Benue-born singer said he has always disliked making reference to what he had experienced back in those times as it had affected his brand negatively.
“Now, you guys let me down. When I made it to the limelight, some kept saying, ‘Terry G did this, Terry G did that.’ Did I kill anyone? No,” the singer can be heard saying in pidgin English.
“But I looked like the baddest guy in Nigeria. Endorsement time came, nobody endorsed me. Nobody did anything all that time when Terry G was hot.
“Who was I supposed to collect money for endorsement from? Nobody. I don’t like to think about that period. Even AY dot com now, where is he? It affected both of us.”
Terry G, who released his fourth album ‘Book of Ginger’ in 2012, is renowned for his singles including ‘So High’, ‘Run Mad’, ‘Testing Microphone’, ‘Sexy Lady’, and ‘Baby Don’t Go’.
