‘God Save Nigeria’ — Yemi Alade Reacts To Gambari’s Appointment As New Chief Of Staff

Nigerian Afrobeats vocalist, Yemi Alade has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of Ibrahim Gambari as his new chief of staff.

His appointment followed the demise of Abba Kyari, former chief of staff, who breathed his last on April 17, after suffering complications from COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by coronavirus.

Several Nigerians had taken to the social media to air their different views on the appointment of the professor of political science as Kyari’s successor.

Joining the fray, the ‘Mama Africa’ crooner expressed reservation with the age of the new chief of staff, hinting that president could have opted for someone who is younger.

Alade said only God would save Nigeria given its penchant for electing and appointing people who are advanced in age into strategic offices.

“75 years old as chief of Staff. God save Nigeria,” she wrote on Twitter.

Her comment comes against the backdrop of several movements canvassing for youths’ participation in governance. The gifted singer had made headlines for several of her critical comments about governance in Nigeria.

She had earlier tackled Buhari for ordering lockdown without providing stimulus package for Nigerians to sustain themselves during the stay home order until it was eventually relaxed.
