This is Oddbod and the City – My Lagos Adventure

I would very much appreciate it if you could join me in a moment of silence for my ruined planned summer holiday plans.

As we speak, I should be a week deep into my usual efforts of eating my way through my favourite pubs, bars, and restaurants; visiting old school friends; eating; plotting long weekends away satisfying country pursuits; more eating; more tattoos; and then locking down some sort of European getaway that starts with a quick trip on the Eurostar.

It has been a very bitter pill to swallow and you will forgive me if I have been in an unbearable mood while I try and shake off the disappointment.

In the meanwhile, we remain grateful for good health.

Living the Staycation Life – Pop Beach Club

When I finally recover from the disappointment and accompanying ennui, I will need to put my thoughts towards some sort of away time for the mini-me and myself.

I must admit, Lagos has its fair share of satisfying staycation options and to be honest, it does not take much more than room service and Wi-Fi to satisfy me.

With the global pandemic still very much in play, we must now consider safety when travelling and especially with kids—both older and younger. There must be fun to be had, instagrammable moments AND the ability to do it all while social distancing.

A couple of weeks ago my very good friend Toks, CEO of Spoon Catering, suddenly gave me all the inspiration I needed.

There she was with her daughter, beachside, everyone was smiling, eating great food, and most importantly, socially distanced. Looked like she had fled to somewhere exotic too, thanks to the stunning views she shared on Instagram. Surely, there would be the kind of break one can responsibly take to get away from it all.

Pop Beach Club is only renting out bookings for one group at a time (the beach house comfortably houses 8 to 12) and they are currently running some sales that are worth taking a look at (Popbeachclub.com).

There is plenty to do for those who want to take it easy such as relaxing in the sun with a good book, pool side yoga, walks on the beach and eating your body weight in good food (this girl does love her barbeque).

For the more adventurous, activities such as bike tours, tennis, kite flying, surfing and the now legendary two-hour long hikes are on the menu.

Historical excursions to Badagry are well worth the effort and a fab group activity to a tour site we can absolutely be proud of.
I can’t wait.

Register to Open – Safety Stickers

As with all things in life there is always a poetic balance in all situations, succinctly described by Newton’s third law, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

One the one hand the devastating effects of the pandemic on businesses, people losing jobs and behemoth organisations closing their doors. On the other, this pandemic has been the making of other businesses.

If you were already in the delivery or online service industry you are laughing.

After the lock down, we have seen new businesses spring out of people’s kitchens, hobbies became breadwinning propositions and available equipment adapted to satisfy pandemic needs.

Now became the time to take that brave move. Instagram accounts are as relevant as television networks for content and communication. We are evolving, ladies and gents—be excited about the new opportunities coming!

I am impressed with anyone who predicted a need as we move into the new normal. People manufacturing or bringing in paraphernalia that will be needed as we slowly find our way to opening the economy.

Any responsible business will be looking into how to protect their staff and clients going forward. Safety stickers are a great means to establish the rules in place e.g. wear your masks, use hand sanitisers etc, additionally placing social distancing stickers on the floor will stop any confusion.

We are all eager for days that look and feel more like “normal”, but we will only get there if we all behave responsibly.
