After Two Weeks at No. 2, Jeff Bezos is Again the Richest Person in the World
Two weeks after losing the title of world’s richest person to LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos recovered the top place.
According to Forbes, Amazon stock rose over 2% on Thursday, June 10, raising Bezos’ net worth by $3.5 billion, while shares in Arnault’s luxury giant LVMH fell over 1%, reducing his fortune by $1.4 billion.
Forbes estimates Bezos’ net worth at $193.5 billion, compared to Arnault’s $192.9 billion.
According to Forbes, the last several weeks have been a rollercoaster for the two titans, who have been exchanging the top rank back and forth. Arnault temporarily passed Bezos on May 24 and 25, just before the New York markets opened and Amazon shares soared, giving the Amazon founder the upper hand. Anault then seized the lead on May 27 and maintained it for two weeks.
The majority of Bezos’ fortune is invested in Amazon stock. He owns around 10% of the e-commerce behemoth, as well as an estimated $19 billion in cash and investments, $500 million in real estate, and aerospace firm Blue Origin, as well as the Washington Post.
