The House of Representatives has abandoned its intention to abolish NYSC
The House of Representatives has abandoned plans to abolish the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Remember how a bill sponsored by congressman Awaji-Inombek Abiante that suggested abolishing the NYSC drew mixed reactions when it passed its second reading?
On Thursday, June 10, during the formal launch of nine books on NYSC and the first NYSC video in recognition of the system’s 48th anniversary, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Youth, Yemi Adaramodu, stated there are no plans to dismantle the system.
The NYSC, according to Adaramodu, is the most effective national initiative for strengthening Nigerian unity.
He said;
“Anybody is free to sponsor a bill, but the speaker and the rest of the house believe that the scheme has come to stay in Nigeria.
“The scheme is going nowhere and it is not the plan of the National Assembly to scrap it. I want to let you know that we’re with you and for you. We’re fully with you, we’re together.”
