Twitter Responds to Suspension of its Operations in Nigeria
The Federal Ministry of Information and Culture stated that Twitter operations in Nigeria will be suspended indefinitely on Friday.
According to the press statement, the suspension was made due to the “continuous” usage of the social networking website “for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.”
Twitter has responded to the suspension, saying that “access to the free and #OpenInternet is a vital human right in modern society” and that it is working to restore access for Nigerians “who rely on Twitter to communicate and connect with the world.”
We are deeply concerned by the blocking of Twitter in Nigeria. Access to the free and #OpenInternet is an essential human right in modern society.
We will work to restore access for all those in Nigeria who rely on Twitter to communicate and connect with the world. #KeepitOn
