A REVIEW ON THE 2021 DAG COLLECTION—LIVING FASHIONABLY

By Rita Okoye

Life is too short to wear boring clothes.
Those were the words of Carly Cushnie and if you take a second to think about it, she is so right! Beautiful and captivating attire is one of the many things that make life worth living.

Can you remember the last time you were complimented for your outfit? Can you remember the pure happiness and fulfilment you felt at that moment? That and more is what being fashionable can do for you.
One brand that has made sure to ensure that individuals enjoy life fashionably is Artynookeh Clothings.

The brand was launched by Comfort Atinuke Shittu in 2006. Each piece created by this brand is more than just that, it is also a narrative displaying their dedication to celebrating and preserving the rich tapestry of African culture while seamlessly blending luxury and versatility in creating garments that transcend trends and become timeless expressions of heritage.

Over the years, the brand has hit various milestones including collaborations with leading fashion events and recognition within the industry for our unique designs. They have also been featured in prominent fashion publications and have garnered accolades for our innovative approach to creating their collections.

The latest of their collection is the 2021 DAG collection. The fascinating part of this collection is that it can be assumed that it was coined out of the first letters of the three fits it carries – Didi, Ayra and Galene.

Let’s explore!
Are you ready to shake some tables with this showstopping dress? Dress Didi is an embodiment of beauty, sophistication and vibrancy. A unique African print was used to achieve this piece and it is called an Ankara. This fabric tells the stories of African traditions most especially in West Africa. The print used for this set is vibrant, attractive and alluring. If you are a big fan of space and its talks, you could liken the print to the galaxy we see in the movies, filled with different planets and surrounded by a dark atmosphere, such as those found in Star Wars.

This elegant maxi dress possesses facets of an off-shoulder, completed with an elasticised shoulder line and secured with elastic cuffs. All of this can be found in the upper bodice design of the fit. It adds femineity and gives off a flattering appearance. There is also a subtle padding that can be found on the bust area of the dress, this creates enchanting curves enhancement to the overall look.

One of the most striking parts of this maxi dress is its flared, floor-sweeping length. dress Didi falls in soft, flowing folds to the ankle area from the mid-thigh area and this feature creates an eye-catching effect which is perfect for making a memorable entrance.

To achieve this stunning flared look, designer Comfort Atinuke incorporated clever pleating and gathering stitches at the top of the dress, for a drapey look.

The fabric and designs used in this dress are all spectacular, still, the designer could improve the placement of the lower flare.

Having it in that specific spot doesn’t allow the complete display of the hip curves which is one of the things women look out for when picking a dress. The placement of this flare could either begin at the mid-waist or fall below that hip line.

Overall, the dress Didi is a beautiful piece that should be fitted on every woman’s collection. Whether you are looking to make an impression at a formal event or simply add a touch of glamour to your everyday wardrobe, dress Didio is sure to do the job.

The second set in this stunning collection is the dress Ayra. It’s a very subtle dress that has a certain kind of brightness around it. The piece features a beautiful blend of African print, Caribbean flair, and modern style. It is also a two-piece outfit, comprising a blouse and a Caribbean skirt.

The mixture of print, design and fabric is a masterpiece showcasing the perfect balance of elegance, sophistication, and cultural heritage.

The upper and lower bodices of this dress are vibrantly coloured as a result of the exquisite Ankara print fabric used. The base colour of the Ankara is a stunning sky blue, perfectly paired with delicate black branches and leaves.
On the upper region of the attire, we find a blouse that features a classic collared button-down design, completed with a convenient zipper at the back.

The two openings both at the front and back give more than enough room for wearability. The sleeve is a stylish bracelet sleeve, stopping just above at elbow. These carefully thought-out designs were created to offer comfortability.

The lower part of the dress is a striking Caribbean skirt. It features classic attachments and intricate patterns that are characteristic of this style. The skirt falls to just above the ankle area making it a midi dress. The most striking feature of the skirt is the unique waistband design. Instead of a conventional waistband, the skirt features a rope-like detail which is tied into a beautiful bow at the front.

The interesting part of this two-piece is its versatility. The blouse and skirt can be worn together for a stunning, formal look, but can also be separated and paired with other pieces for a more casual, everyday style. The merging of African print and Caribbean flair makes this fit perfect for cultural events, weddings, and other formal occasions. At the same time, the modern design elements and stylish appearance ensure that this dress is equally fitting for a casual setting.

To make the look even better, the designer might want to reduce the bulgy look of the skirt, the designs and patterns in the dress all look very elegant but the bulge takes away the spotlight from them.

Galene is the third piece in this captivating collection. It is a trendy playsuit that not only proposes comfort but is also sure to turn heads. This daring design combines bold and eye-catching attributes that will remain unforgettable in the minds of your onlookers.
Upon the first view of this dress, the first thing that must have caught your attention is the bold bulgy appearance, right? One of the most striking features of this playsuit is the bold bulgy it carries.

The designer intentionally added volume to the design which adds drama to the complete look. The sleeveless playsuit also falls above the knee, creating a flattering and fashionable appearance.

This playsuit has several innovative design elements, including the unique attachment found just below the bust line. Unlike other traditional jumpsuits, which typically carry an attachment at the mid-waist, this design adds a modern twist to its story. The attachment is adorned with a plated design, giving it a ruffled look.

The pleating on the shorts is another highlighting feature of this design. The clever use of pleating adds volume and texture to the playsuit, and that’s how the bulgy look was achieved. The pleating also allows for easy movement and flow to the design, making it perfect for dancing the night away or even relaxing at a beach.

One of the most surprising things about this playsuit is the trendy pockets. The design includes two spacious side pockets which are perfect for storing small essentials like your phone, keys, or lipstick. The pockets are cleverly designed to blend seamlessly into the overall design as can be seen in cargo or jungle pants.

Also, the Ankara fabric used in this design is truly stunning. The prints are bold and unique. They look like broken ties or shapes with colour combinations such as brown, and black.
This bold, bulgy playsuit is truly a trendsetter, featuring an eccentric blend of modern designs and traditional African heritage. The brilliant use of pleating, fabric, and pattern creates a truly indelible impact. depending on how you style this attire, it can serve as an informal way and still fit into a variety of casual events.
Still, the bulginess of the attire might need to be looked into. The volume is excessive and this could make women have double thoughts before deciding on it.

This sensational 2021 collection of Artynookeh Clothing showcases an exceptional blend of African heritage, modern trends, and innovative design. The attention to detail, clever use of texture and pattern, and undeniable dramatics all come together to create a collection that is not only visibly stunning but also culturally significant. As the fashion industry continues to evolve and expand, collections like this one are bound to keep its flag flying because of its peculiarity.
