Actor-turned-lawyer, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has mulled over the controversial issue of sex-for-role in the Nollywood movie terrain.
Recently, the alleged prevalence of the practice of giving roles for sex particularly with females, in Nollywood has continued to dominate arguments on social media from both existing actors, actresses, stakeholders in the industry, up-and-coming actors, and their viewers.
However, following an Instagram post on Wednesday, the actor cautioned his followers to stop believing such claims, arguing that most talks about sex-for-role are usually erroneous.
The film star further claimed that several up-and-coming actresses do not invest the effort to earn roles in Nollywood.
“When you hear of sex for roles in Nollywood, please do not believe all you are told. Many of the girls are not working hard to live up to the roles they are cast for. Quite a shame,” he wrote.
Moreover, various movie stars have also contributed to the discussion in the past.
Last year, actress and mother of one, Bukunmi Oluwasina contended that the issue of sex-for-role in Nollywood can’t be tackled when aspiring movie stars come into the industry with the mindset of soliciting favor through illicit means.
“One day, we’re going to have a conversation about some people who came into the industry with the aim of having the opportunity to meet, be friends with or date, sleep with or even marry a celebrity,” she had said.
It could also be recalled that in September 2021, star actor, Odunlade Adekola was accused of demanding sex from females craving roles in his movies. He, however, dismissed the allegations with utmost vehemence.
