R. Kelly taken off prison’s suicide watch
Following a confrontation with US federal officials, R Kelly, imprisoned musician, has been removed off suicide watch.
After being found guilty of sex crimes, the musician launched a lawsuit against the prison he was confined in.
After being placed on suicide watch at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, Kelly said that he was receiving “cruel and unusual punishment” that went against his 8th Amendment rights.
He argued that he was not even considering suicide and that he was only being subjected to such severe conditions because he is a famous person.
However, Kelly’s removal off suicide watch was decided upon after a “clinical examination,” according to Heriberto H. Tellez, the Metropolitan Detention Center Warden who was named as one of the defendants in the case, who spoke to TMZ.
On the evaluation, no additional information was given.
After being found guilty of federal racketeering and sex trafficking crimes last year, Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Wednesday.
