BON renames award category in memory of late Sammie Okposo

December 1,2022
Share:

The Best of Nollywood Awards (BON) organizers have announced that a category would be renamed in memory of the late gospel singer Sammie Okposo.

Last Friday, Okposo reportedly died peacefully in his sleep.

The event’s organizers said on Wednesday that they will rename the “Best Soundtrack Category” in honor of the musician.

On December 3, the BON Awards 2022 are scheduled to take place in Owerri, Imo state.

This change was made as a result of impromptu adjustments to make the edition special.

BON Awards founder, Seun Oloketuyi discussed the strategy in the following way:

Sammie Okposo in his lifetime was a force, and he did a lot for the growth of gospel music in Nigeria and beyond.

We are not a music award, but we feel the need to honour him in some way. This was what inspired us to rename the Best Soundtrack category after him. His loss will be felt by all and this is just a way to immortalize him.

He said:

This is the 14th edition and the second time this indigenous movie awards will be held in the southeast.

One of the reasons we decided to host the awards in Imo this year is because the history and story of Nollywood will not be complete without mentioning Imo state.

There are lots of Imo indigenes who have done well in the industry.

Oloketuyi claimed that Hope Uzodinma, the host of the BON Awards in 2022, has thrown open his doors to the entertainment business, in especially the film industry, in order to help the economy of Imo state flourish financially.

According to available information, Lateef Adedimeji and Queen Nwokoye will co-host this year’s ceremony.
