Finland’s PM Sanna Marin, husband to divorce after 19 years
Finland’s Prime Minister, Sanna Marin, and her husband, Markus Raikkonen, have announced their decision to divorce after being together for 19 years.
The couple, both 37 years old, have a five-year-old daughter named Emma Amalia Marin. They tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in August 2020.
In an Instagram post, Marin expressed gratitude for the years they spent together, stating, “Together, we’ve filed for divorce. We’re grateful for the 19 years together and for our beloved daughter.”
The news comes shortly after Marin’s election defeat last month, which led to her decision to step down as Prime Minister.
Throughout her time in office, she faced controversies surrounding her partying habits.
One particular incident that received media attention was a secret recording in August 2022, showing Marin dancing intimately with Finnish singer Olavi Uusivirta.
Uusivirta denied any romantic involvement and clarified that they were just friends.
While the footage showed moments of physical closeness, there is no indication that Uusivirta played a role in the couple’s separation.
Marin’s political journey and personal life have intersected, with the recent divorce announcement following her election loss and the controversies surrounding her tenure.
