Review: Emeldah Atelier’s Sisepo Collection – A Bold and Electrifying Showcase of Print at Bristol Fashion Show 2023

Fashion has an undeniable power to command attention, to tell a story without speaking a word. On November 19th, 2023, at The Mount Without, Imelda Obiora’s Sisepo Collection for Emeldah Atelier did just that at the Bristol Fashion Show.

From the moment the first look hit the runway, it was clear that this collection was not about subtlety—it was about making a statement. Prints took centre stage, silhouettes were sharp yet fluid, and confidence radiated through every stitch.

One of the standout pieces was the black-and-white sleeveless mini dress, a striking display of contrast and precision. The tribal-inspired symbols scattered across the fabric gave the piece a sense of movement and cultural depth, while the structured collar and double-breasted buttons introduced an element of tailored sophistication.

The sleeveless cut and high hemline ensured that despite its formal detailing, the dress felt youthful, fresh, and versatile. Styled with black ankle boots, it had the perfect mix of edge and wearability, making it a piece that could transition effortlessly from runway to street style.

The next piece that demanded attention was the red blazer dress with exaggerated puffed sleeves. This was where Obiora’s ability to play with proportions truly shone. The star print across the fabric injected a playful energy, but the cut itself spoke of authority.

The oversized sleeves gave it a sculptural quality, while the cinched waist maintained a flattering silhouette. It was the kind of garment that needed no additional styling to make an impact—it carried all the drama on its own. Paired with knee-high boots, the model’s walk reinforced the sense of power the piece exuded.

Softness entered the collection in the form of the navy floral dress, an unexpected shift from the high-impact prints that dominated the lineup. The deep blue base, punctuated by oversized red and beige flowers, created a look that was romantic without losing its boldness. The structured pleats ensured the fabric moved beautifully, catching the light with every step.

The deep V-neckline was an unexpected but welcome touch, bringing a hint of modern sensuality to an otherwise classic silhouette.
Then, the energy took a turn again with the one-shoulder turquoise dress, a design that felt effortlessly fluid and vibrant.

The zebra-like print almost seemed to ripple as the model walked, the wavy lines interacting with the asymmetric cut in a way that felt organic and dynamic. The cut-out hemline added an unexpected design element, lending it an edgier, more playful feel. Styled with strappy heels, it was an embodiment of movement, proving that fashion is as much about how a piece behaves as it is about how it looks.

That said, Sisepo was a masterclass in print-focused design, executed with skill and confidence. Each look felt like a declaration, proving that fashion can be both wearable and impactful. Imelda Obiora continues to set herself apart by merging tradition with contemporary cuts, and this collection was yet another example of why her voice in fashion is so powerful. The runway at Bristol Fashion Show 2023 was all the more exciting for having Sisepo as part of it, and watching it unfold was nothing short of exhilarating.
