CHANGE COUTURE: A CRITIQUE OF THE TWINE APPEAL COLLECTION
By Rita Okoye
The event was from April 22nd, 2024, and ended on April 26th, 2024. The event featured numerous fashion designers, models, entertainers, and fashion enthusiasts.
Change Couture used that avenue to launch its Twine Appeal Collection which it described as “Something to help everyone fall in love with crochet – either newly or afresh.”
Crochet is well known as a tedious, time-consuming fashion and art form. Crocheters must be mindful of the type of yarn, knitting pin, measurements and so many other things.
Also, it can be a lot to replicate especially when multiple orders are sent in, so it is understandable and very admirable that Change Couture released its first-ever collection.
The Twine appeal had yarn choices such as Acrylic, Cotton and Wool. These yarn types were combined on some designs to give the desired style while some styles had one yarn type each.
In all, the designs seem quite simple yet beautiful. The short gowns, shorts, Pant trousers, male and female swimwear, shirts and even sweaters were all quite softer than one would expect.
The amount of time spent on making each piece is a confirmation of the brand’s dedication to beautifying people and showcasing another form of fashion design.
The finishing on a lot of the clothes was so smooth that one would think that it was not hand-knitted at all.
They are quite neat, non-scratchy on the skin and quite comfortable too. Usually, crochet is well-noted for being slightly heat-conducting but few of the designs in this collection seem like they were made for the streets of Nigeria – Light enough for air to pass through.
Twine Appeal had beautiful and colourful mixes- Yellow and Sky Blue, Lemon and Pink, Orange, and Red. There were a few one-colour designs like Peach, Lavender, and Rose-Gold. These varieties helped bring alive the Appeal in the Twine Appeal collection.
They gave the option of choices despite how stressful it can be to churn out pieces of designs made through crocheting; we dare say that the choices of colours made all the efforts worth whatever prices they would be selling for now that the event is over.
We hope that more collections are released soon, maybe even a collaborative collection with another or several other crochet brands.
