The Warri Fashion Festival which held on 22nd through 26th April, 2024 featured many exhibiting designers, but only some embraced the spotlight and leveraged the platform to showcase their design skills and brand identity.

One of the brands whose creation caused a stir of positive expressions, feedback, and applause was Xcite Couture, led by their Creative Director Titilayo Bamiro, who is one of the fastest-developing pattern drafter, draper, and sketch artists with an intuitive approach to producing trend worthy fashion products.

She oversaw the meticulous process of creating the collection from the design phase to the completion phase, and it is not difficult to discover how she used her sketching skills to visualize a compelling set of urban designs while manifesting her pattern-making ability in the way different functional units of designs were seamlessly combined.

We have all had hoodies made from locally sourced fabrics like Kampala, Adire, and Ankara, but to see a carefully pieced Kaftan hoodie that keys into the street style fashion sense of a northern Nigerian man while retaining the essence of his culture with the hood designed to fit like a hat is extra-ordinary.

Tiitayo not only attempted to elevate our cultural heritage with urban ideas, but she also surfaced on the three primary cultures in Nigeria in the process.

Creating a portfolio of timeless and on-trend pieces that included armless dresses, kaftan hoodies, sleeveless street style two-piece, and a cropped top and bum short made from Ankara and Kampala fabrics – materials steeped in cultural significance – she used her skills to promote our textile industry and encourage cultural integration between fashion designers across Nigeria.

Bamiro’s bold color palette, featuring deep blues, rich pinks, vibrant yellows, rich purples, and striking greens, stays true to the essence of Kampala fabric while incorporating contrasting accents and modern prints.

Accessories like statement jewelry, belts, and modern footwear complement the dresses, demonstrating how somebody can style these pieces can be styled for both casual and formal occasions.

The Modern Muse collection represents a cutting-edge approach to fashion that respects and reinterprets tradition while embracing modernity and individual expression. It is a harmonious blend of cultural heritage and contemporary design.

Xcite Couture’s “Modern Muse” feature inventive cuts, strategic draping, and modern prints, highlighting the fabric’s vibrant patterns and rich textures in fresh, unexpected ways. These skills further lend credence to the exceptional abilities that Bamiro has been able to grow in her journey as a Fashion designer.

Bamiro’s commitment to cultural preservation, innovation, quality craftsmanship, inclusivity, and sustainability are all evident in the creation of the “Modern Muse” collection, and this approach resulted in a versatile, statement-making fashion that empowers individuals to express their cultural identity and personal style with confidence and elegance.
