Auditing Your Wardrobe
By Josephine Agbonkhese
The start of a new year is a great time for a wardrobe audit, especially if you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by a jam packed closet.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to decluttering, organising, and transforming your wardrobe into a curated selection that truly reflects your style and meets your needs.

Step One: Empty and Sort
Pull out your entire wardrobe and sort them into two piles: clothes you wear regularly and the ones you hardly wear.
Step 2: Evaluate Each Item
1. Honestly ask yourself: When was the last time I wore this item? Does it fit me well? Is it in good condition? Does it make me feel confident and comfortable?
Step 3: Sort Piles into Categories
1. Start with tops, then move to bottoms, dresses, outerwear, and accessories.
2. Within each category, sort items into three piles: keep, donate/sell, discard.
– Keep: items that fit well, are in good condition, and make you feel confident.
– Donate/Sell: items that are still in good condition but no longer fit or suit your style.
– Discard: items that are damaged, ill-fitting, or no longer wearable.
Step 4: Organise and Store Your Kept Items
1. Use storage bins and dividers to keep items organised and easy to find.
2. Hang clothes by type, colour, and size to create a visually pleasing wardrobe.
Step 5: Donate or Sell Items
1. Donate gently used items to local charities or thrift stores.
2. Sell items that are still in good condition through online marketplaces or thrift stores.
6: Discard Items Responsibly
Dispose of items you no longer consider wearable or recyclable. But endeavour to dispose of them in an environmentally responsible manner.
