Review: A Bold Experiment in Elegance and Edge by Frednetic Styles

Fashion is about balance—between structure and fluidity, tradition and reinvention, boldness and restraint.

At the AFAA Showcase on the 15th of February 2025, Frednetic Styles, under the creative direction of Akhilomen Nosa Wilfred, delivered a collection that wasn’t just an exhibition of design but a full-fledged experiment in contrasts.

Titled “Eclectic Essence,” this collection blurred the lines between soft and sharp, classic and unconventional, proving that the best designs are the ones that refuse to fit neatly into a box. It was an unapologetic celebration of volume, texture, and unexpected pairings, all wrapped in a confident, avant-garde aesthetic.

The first look that stepped onto the runway set the tone: a cropped floral-printed jacket with exaggerated purple tulle details at the cuffs, paired with a layered sheer skirt edged in soft ruffles. It was both playful and sophisticated, taking elements of classic tailoring and injecting them with an unexpected whimsy. The mix of fabrics—structured Ankara with airy tulle—added depth, showing that femininity can be both powerful and delicate.

The model’s stance, her expression, the way the tulle caught the light as she moved—it all worked together to create an entrance that was impossible to ignore.

Then came the drama. A sheer, black mesh top with intricate white geometric embroidery at the sleeves and pant cuffs, worn by a male model with striking confidence, immediately redefined what masculinity can look like on the runway.

The transparency, juxtaposed against bold prints, created an alluring tension—a mix of vulnerability and strength, subtlety and statement.

The trousers, cut in a flowing silhouette, moved like liquid with every step, reinforcing the idea that power in fashion doesn’t always have to come from rigidity—it can come from movement, from an ease that commands attention without force.

Not one to be outdone, a figure-hugging shift dress in a monochrome floral print made its entrance, draped in a cloud of cascading white tulle ruffles. It was a vision of soft grandeur, proving that volume, when done right, can feel weightless rather than overwhelming. The dress felt like something plucked from a dream—a delicate balance of romance and rebellion.

But Frednetic Styles is not a brand that plays it safe. Just when it seemed the collection had revealed its aesthetic, out came an electrifying kaftan, rich in red, yellow, and black Ankara prints, flowing like liquid movement. The oversized silhouette added an air of relaxed regality, while the intricate patterning ensured that the look commanded attention.

A male model followed in matching trousers, paired with a black mesh top that hinted at sensuality while maintaining a minimalist appeal.Closing out the show was a look that brought everything together—a boldly tailored blue-and-green floral crop top, with billowing sleeves, paired with structured black wide-leg trousers. It was contemporary, wearable, and undeniably chic.

A perfect embodiment of what this collection stood for: balance, contradiction, and fearless self-expression.

At the AFAA Showcase 2025, Frednetic Styles left the audience captivated, proving that true style is about daring to mix the unexpected, embracing contrast, and making the runway a place of artistic storytelling rather than just display.

This collection wasn’t just a presentation—it was a statement. It was about owning who you are, wearing pieces that make you feel powerful, and defying the limitations of what fashion is expected to be.
