As the world marked the 2025 International Women’s Day on Saturday, March 8, women have been admonished to cherish and support one another to accelerate action towards achieving their full potential in all spheres of life.

Speakers at a gathering organised by The Inner Wheel District 911, Lagos, which took place at the Rotary Centre, GRA, Ikeja, also emphasised the need for women to re-educate themselves and imbibe speaking with one voice.

Engr. Mrs Aramide Adeyoye, former Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on works and infrastructure, opined that any society that fails to champion the course of women is short-changing itself, stressing that women must possess competence, capacity, character and integrity to be able to stand out and triumph amid a competitive men’s world.

She applauded women’s significant representations and remarkable achievements in the academia and banking sector, while also decrying the underrepresented in the Fintech and political spaces.

The former SA urged parents to encourage their girl-child or wards to study science oriented courses adding that fin-tech world is the future.

“It is time to take action to prepare ourselves towards immense opportunities ahead of us. Women must not be complacent, we must work so that doors of opportunities can open for others.

“Women can multitask, they are more focused and can deliver, work with passion, set standards and benchmark. So, parents must start to encourage their children to be better educated about being independent and possessing self-confidence,” Adeyoye said.

Mrs Adedolapo Aminu, a management expert, said that women must stretch forth to create the chances where they can and also give themselves chance to attain a greater pedestal in the society.

Mrs Olatokunbo Adegoju, an automotive engineer, empahasised the need to get more females into entrepreneurship net to be able compete favourably in the male-dominated industries.

Former Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Ayotunde Philips expressed joy at the fact that women have taken the stage in the judiciary sector in Lagos State, but stressed that there is need to sustain it.

She called for more inclusive platforms, as well as moral support for the younger ones to guide their ways towards a path to a successful life.

District Chairman, Mrs Adenike Sodipo in her welcome address said: “This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action” reminds us that true progress comes when women are empowered to lead, contribute, be heard.”
