Scalp care routine for healthy hair growth
By Josephine Agbonkhese
Everyone wants long, healthy hair but not many ever give their scalp a thought.
Meanwhile, the scalp is the foundation for healthy hair growth just like soil for a plant because hair follicles actually reside in the scalp. So, a clean, well-nourished scalp will definitely support faster growing hair and prevent hair loss, as well as reduce itchiness and irritation.

Here’s a simple, effective scalp care routine that promotes healthy hair and prevents issues like dandruff, buildup, or itchiness.
Daily Care
Brush or massage your scalp gently for a few minutes to boost blood flow and remove dead skin, unless your hairdo won’t let you. If you sweat often, rinse with water or a mild shampoo to keep the scalp clean and prevent clogged pores.
Every 2–3 Days
Wash with a gentle shampoo and use a sulfate-free, pH-balanced shampoo to cleanse without stripping natural oils.
If you have dandruff or oil buildup, try a shampoo with salicylic acid, ketoconazole, or tea tree oil.
Use a Scalp-Focused Conditioner
Massage a lightweight conditioner or scalp serum into your scalp, not just your hair.
Look for ingredients like niacinamide, caffeine, or peppermint oil for circulation and soothing.
Once a Week
Exfoliate the scalp by using a scalp scrub or exfoliating brush to remove buildup, dead skin, and excess oil. Be gentle—don’t scratch or overdo it.
Occasionally
Apply a hydrating or clarifying treatment if your scalp feels dry, tight, or oily. Aloe vera gel, apple cider vinegar rinse, or rosemary oil massage are great choices.
