Desire for money

Share:

Desire for more money is common to most human beings.

Money is anything generally and legally accepted as means of exchange or payment for goods and services.

In today’s world, money comes in various forms including paper, coins, debit cards, credit cards, cheques, and digital currencies such as bitcoin, e-Naira, stable coins etc.

The desire for money and more money comes from the necessity for money. We need money for food, clothing, accommodation, transport, health and education.

Money is also needed for social and cultural obligations such as dowry, wedding, burial, baby naming ceremonies. And we need money for special and capital projects, such as buying a car, building a house, or starting a business etc.
The amount of money you have, to a large extent, determines your standard of living or quality of life, which refers to the quantity and quality of goods and services you have or can access.

Sources of money
To have the amount of money you need to achieve the quality of living you desire, you need to know how to make or get money lawfully. And to make more money, you need to know how to use the money you have to generate more money.

There are three major sources of money.
The first is income from payment in exchange for the labour of our hands such as wages, salaries, bonuses, pensions etc.

The second source of money is income from investment which is generally referred to as returns on investment, ROI. These include interest earned on savings, from mutual funds, treasury bills, commercial papers, bonds and dividends/price appreciation earned from shares. Returns on investment also include, profits from businesses, and rents from properties.

Gifts, inheritance gratuities are the third source of money.
Based on the amount of money each person has, there are two categories of people in this world namely; the rich and the poor.

The rich are those whose income far cover their basic needs. These include people like Elon Musk and Aliko Dangote.

The poor are those whose income is far less than what they require for their basic needs. Over 700 million people live in extreme poverty.
A well established fact is that anyone can be rich or poor. It all depends on how much money you generate and how you spend the money. This column is for those who desire to be rich.
