10 Ways to Get Rid of Unwanted Facial Hair

Are you tired of dealing with unwanted facial hairs? If you are, there are many options available to help you achieve smooth, hair-free skin.

Each method has its pros and cons, so it’s essential to choose the one that suits your skin type, hair texture, and personal preferences. Consult with a professional or do a patch test before trying any new hair removal method.
Here are 10 facial hair removal methods to consider:

  1. Dermaplaning

This technique uses a small blade to gently remove fine hairs, also known as peach fuzz and dead skin, leaving your face baby-smooth. You can do it at home with a dermaplaning tool or see a professional.
Best for: Smooth skin and better makeup application
Not for: Sensitive or acne-prone skin, or thick facial hair

  1. Shaving
Just like shaving your legs, but for your face. Use a clean, sharp razor and shave downward on clean, taut skin. It’s quick and painless but needs frequent touch-ups.
Best for: A fast, budget-friendly option
Watch out for: Ingrown hairs or irritation if you use a dull blade.
  2. Waxing
Warm wax is applied to the skin and then pulled off to remove hair from the root. It’s great for shaping eyebrows or removing upper lip and chin hair.
Best for: Longer-lasting results (about 3-4 weeks)
Pro tip: Exfoliate to prevent ingrown hairs
  3. Sugaring
A more natural version of waxing, sugaring uses a paste made from sugar, lemon, and water. It’s gentle on the skin and less painful than traditional waxing.
Best for: Sensitive skin and eco-conscious beauties
    Lasts: Around 4-5 weeks
  4. Laser Hair Removal
This high-tech option uses light to target and destroy hair follicles. After several sessions, hair grows back slower or stops altogether.
    Best for: Long-term results
  5. Electrolysis
This method removes hair permanently by sending an electric current into each follicle. It works on all hair types and colours.
    Best for: Permanent hair removal
Heads-up: Takes multiple sessions and must be done by a trained expert
  6. Threading
An ancient technique where twisted thread is used to pull hair out from the root. It’s perfect for shaping brows and removing small areas of hair.
Best for: Precise shaping on small areas
Pain level: Can be high, but it’s fast and affordable
  7. Epilation
This at-home device grabs and pulls hairs from the root using tiny tweezers. Results last longer than shaving.
Best for: Those looking for longer-lasting smoothness
Tip: Look for a model with lots of tweezers for quicker results
  8. Hair Removal Creams
Also called depilatory creams, these dissolve hair using gentle chemicals. They’re easy to use and found at most drugstores.
Best for: A quick, affordable option
Reminder: Always do a patch test to avoid irritation
  9. Prescription Creams
These creams don’t remove hair—they slow down how fast it grows. You’ll need to use them consistently and get them from a doctor.
Best for: Thinning facial hair over time
Patience required: Results take a few weeks, and hair will grow back if you stop using it.
