The 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One NYSC Cultural Carnival, held recently at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja, was a vibrant and uplifting showcase of Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity and youthful energy.

The event burst with colour and rhythm as Corps Members delivered captivating performances of traditional dances, music, drama, and cultural displays representing various ethnic groups across the country. A highlight was the creativity shown by participants portraying cultures other than their own, demonstrating impressive cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. Inter-platoon competitions and pageantry further heightened the excitement, underscoring the dedication, talent, and unity among Nigeria’s young generation.

Fashion took center stage with stunning displays of traditional attire alongside contemporary twists on indigenous styles from regions such as Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Gbagyi, and more. The air filled with the infectious beats of local music, while showcases of regional cuisines celebrated Nigeria’s culinary tapestry. The atmosphere was lively and inclusive, drawing enthusiastic participation from students, dignitaries, and members of the diplomatic community in a shared appreciation of the nation’s heritage.

More than mere entertainment, the carnival stood as a powerful platform for fostering youth engagement, national unity, and integration.

The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Muhammed, MFR, mni, delivered remarks emphasising culture’s vital role in bridging divides nationwide. She urged governments, corporate organisations, and philanthropists to increase support for such youth-centered programmes that strengthen unity and national cohesion.

The Minister also praised the Corps Members for their dynamic performances, noting that the event exemplified young Nigerians forging bonds across ethnic and religious lines while building a shared future.

In attendance were the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General O. O. Nafiu; the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande (represented by Permanent Secretary Dr. Maryam Keshinro); diplomatic representatives, key stakeholders, and other senior government officials.
