Homeless man remanded in court for stealing 2300 rechargeable lamps worth 1.8million naira.

A homeless man, Usman Garuba, 30 has been convicted of a stealing rechargeable lamps worth 1.8 million naira. He pleaded guilty to stealing 2,300 pieces of rechargeable lamps valued at 1.8million. Garuba appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. He pleaded guilty of the count of theft levelled against him. The Magistrate, Mr Ade Adefulire ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to Sept. 14 for the presentation of the facts.
The prosecuting officer, Mr Ben Ekundayo told the court that the accused had on Aug. 7 at about 6:45p.m. at Dosumu St. Lagos Island made away with 2,300 rechargeable lamps.He also added that the accused had slept at an open passage near the store where the lamps were kept.
Mr. Ekundayo stated that the accused had used a stick with nails attached to its head to pull out cartons of the lamps through a window. Mr Adefulire alleged that the accused had earlier stolen some of the lamps from Chukwudi Ifediba’s store quietly, but was finally caught in possession of a sack full of the lamps before the action was brought against him. He said the offence violated Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011.
