Runaway bride-to-be causes social media frenzy
Social media went haywire with the news of the runaway bride. This is not a popular Nollywood movie. This happened real life and the pictures can testify to it. There are many bizarre stories one can find online but this one is in a class on its own. It was actually a trending picture of a bride-to-be being chased by her husband-to-be and groomsmen. So what was the bone of contention? The disappointed bride-to-be withdraws from her marriage ceremony after she got to know that her potential husband lied that he was a staff of Chevron Oil Company. Apparently, the groom-to-be had been playing a fast one on her, making her believe he worked in the mentioned oil company.
As usual, the tale elicited various comments, some for the bride-to-be and others against her. Those who agreed with lady’s action stood on the grounds that she would be spending her life with a liar. Marriage is built on trust so why would she take the risk with someone who is obviously dishonest. It is certainly a risky venture.
On the other hand, those against her action called her names, chief among them was Gold digger. They were of the opinion that she was more interested in marrying her man because of money. According to them, his place of work should not be an issue and she was supposed to take her husband-to-be for who he is.
The first sets of people have a point though. It’s better to stay away from a liar and remain with a truthful person than vice versa. For us, it is sheer wickedness for the guy to have lied to her all along from dating to courtship to marriage. He probably went as far as raising her hopes that he was a man of integrity and true to his words. He would have married her into deception. Those kind of guys lack good conscience.
However, on the flip side of the argument supposing the lady in question only fell for him because of his supposed fat salary and bank account. Maybe it was not genuine love. Whatever the case, this does not justify the guy’s action. Now Chevron is making headlines not for the right reasons but for being infused in a silly story. Trust me, this doesn’t tell well on their corporate image. It could also be that the guy was actually in Chevron but got sacked in the face of the mass sacking going on in oil companies. So in order to save his marriage, he then decided not to tell the lady until their wedding day.
There are many twists to the story:
What if the guy just wanted to test the authenticity of her love for him?
What if, it was the Bridesmaid that got to know about the Chevron angle and decided to inform her friend of the true state of things?
And what if the guy was looking for a way to call off the wedding?
It could even be that the picture was from a movie shoot, we never can tell because on social media funny things happen.
