AFWL: Didi creations, Sly Monay, AFT kick off day one
By Yemisi Suleiman
Day one of the much anticipated Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) 2016, held at the Olympia West, kicked off to a colourful start yesterday September 9, with the queen of kaftans, Didi Creations sending models down the runways in her revamped kaftans. She excited the audience with the most beautiful chiffon pieces in tatters, asymmetric sleeves or with the back left unbuttoned right down the spine, all in bold bright, colours.
Sly Monay came up with a powerful couple collection featuring the cravat embedded in the native attire for men, with a complementing outfit for the lady. He gave the agbada a modern twist with his agbada detribalized collection. The collection was colourful and a fresh take on Nigeria’s native wears.
From the creative and trendy Ankara collections by Daviva’s McStel and Nipo Skin, to Africa Fashion Today (Aft), day one served a collection of creative works from new and emerging designers.
