American actress, Viola Davis took home the Oscar award for the Best Supporting Actress in this year’s award ceremony.
She won the award for her role in the movie, Fences.
The 51-year-old actress spoke on stage about the huge honour of winning after being nominated three times over the years.
She said
“People ask me all the time, what kind of stories do you want to tell, Viola? And I say, exhume those bodies…exhume those stories. The stories of the people who dreamed big, and never saw those stories to fruition…I became an artist and thank god I did…. We are the only profession that celebrates what it means to live a life. Here’s to [playwright] August Wilson, who exhumed and exalted the ordinary people.”
Davis already has an Emmy, two Tonys, five Screen Actors Guild awards, a Golden Globe, and so many more. And now an Oscar, too.
