Designer showcases wedding dress worth over 31 million Naira at Fashion week

The ongoing Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has witnessed several designers, one of whom, is red carpet favourite, Steven Khalil, who closed his show by stunning the crowd with a dress worth  $100,000, which is equivalents to 31,475,000 million Naira.

Mr Khalil, who showed the dress at the Fashion Week holding in Australia noted that the dress was tailored more for his market in the Middle East, and that the pricey gown and veil took “in excess of 300 hours to create”, 3-4 seamstresses and more than eight months of planning.

“The beading is so intricate, and placed so that they pick up the light,” Mr Khalil explained.

“The cost of the dress is a combination of beading, labour and fabrication … but [for this price] we generally get most of our enquiries from the Middle East where they are willing to pay that money [for a wedding dress].”

During his 2016 show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Khalil showcased another $100,000 bridal dress, which was six months in the making.

The gown, which had a matching veil, was embellished with beaded flowers which were placed on to the fabric by hand.

Made from imported organza, the dress was one of Khalil’s most expensive designs to date.

“We hand made every single flower, and there were hundreds of flowers,” he said.
