Peter Okoye urges upcoming musicians to stop chasing money and follow passion instead

Peter Okoye, one half of musical duo, PSquare, in a recent chat, talked about the trends in the Nigerian music industry.

According to him, music artistes of nowadays are doing  music solely for the money ignoring the most crucial aspect. which is passion.

The father of two also pointed out that when he and his twin, Paul started music, money was not their driving force and it was their passion that sustained them to their current level.

He said:

”Most of them(upcoming musicians) do not see the passion in it anymore. You know, they just want to go there because they have seen the likes of us, making it big. Living in good houses…buying big cars or whatever. Guys! It is beyond that. Music is passion. Some of them, I see them they write me, I see their C.Ds. They just want to blow. Guys , if you blow? You blow, you’re done.

”Trust me, it is all about being real to yourself. Trust me. What am I here for? Am I here to impress people? Or to make money and go or am I here based on the passion?

First of all, when we all started there was no money in the industry. We were doing it for the passion. If you don’t pay me, I’m still gonna sing. If you don’t pay me, I’m still gonna dance. So the question is-Are you gonna sing if you are not getting paid? Say you are doing it for the passion”
