Famous actors neglected me- Bola Akande, Producer

By Rita Chioma,
England based Nigerian born, movie actress cum producer, Bola Akande, who is the daughter of legendary theatre practitioner Ishola Ogunsola AKA ‘Dr Isho Pepper’, stormed Nigeria few months ago for the shoot of her latest movie, ‘Broken’.
The Christian movie which parades actors like, Olumide Oworu, Morenike Akande, Afolabi Dipeolu, Tobosun Odunsi and more was filmed in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.
In a recent chat, the Ms Akande, who is also the Creative director of His Praise and Glory Media Ministry based in Manchester UK, revealed the challenges she faced shooting her movie in Nigeria and how top movie stars neglected her.
“Funding of Broken’s shoot in Nigeria was not easy at all. We shot the movie on RED camera, one of the top end camera for digital filming. And it costs a lot of money to hire per day. We were supposed to get funding from someone but the money didn’t come so my husband and I had to raise the money for the project with the help of God and we had a lot of support from our cast and crew.
Also because it was a self funded project, it took over a year to finish because we couldn’t pay for everything on time. So, a lot of things were DIY (do it yourself) but today here we are.
And again, because we are upcoming it took more efforts for people to see our work and believe in us. Some actors that we approached didn’t take us seriously because they didn’t know us or the work we can do, also being a faith based message they probably are not sure if people would see it,” she hinted.
Speaking more about the movie, Broken, the multi-talented movie producer assured that the project was inspired by God.
“It was a mission God ordained and it was wonderful. We dealt with incest; fathers defiling their daughters and ways to tackle such abominations.I have to be grateful to God and to my husband for pulling this through.”
