Wellies

Wellies

It’s been pouring (because raining doesn’t quite cover the intensity) throughout this month and given that we’ve reached the point where kayaking is an actual thing on the streets of Lagos; I figured it may be time for Fashion to come to the rescue. It’s a known fact among those who know that fashion is incredibly multifaceted, which has me thinking; maybe, just maybe, we’ve discovered one new way in which Fashion can come to the rescue.

Sure it’s coming a little late because it appears “August Break” is providing some respite from the torrential downpour, but with all the hazards of climate change; namely unstable weather and seasonal switches, you never know how soon style rescue tips from flooding could come in handy again.

We all know It’s pretty hard to get from your car to the front of your office in the rainy season especially if you work or live in flood central (Lekki) without completely ruining your shoes. So quite naturally, utilitarianism is going to have to become the new chic (that is unless you want to lose the entirety of your investment in your shoe collection).

Question: How does one go utilitarian and still stay stylish?

Answer: Wellies!

PS: If you still refer to them as rain boots (doesn’t matter If that’s what they actually are) you need to make it stop. They got a more stylish and dignified name upgrade since forever.

We’ve officially gotten to the point where wellies are a very sensible alternative for adults. They provide protection from all that dreadful rain and even have some spunk to them. From hunter wellies to Hilfiger, Joules, Barbour , Rock fish and every mid-range to high end name in between (If they are below mid-range then their back to being rain boots). Wellies come in a variety of amazing colours, styles and lengths to make any look work.

Unfortunately, I don’t know if any well-known retailer has had foresight enough to stock willies. However, I did stumble upon countryattire.com sometime last week with an offer of free shipping to Nigeria for a short time frame.

For those of you who still think it’s a bit ridiculous and are battling flooded cars during the rains, do let us know how that works out for you and your shoe collection. Just saying!

Anyhow, who knew fashion, had the power to get you through flooding and the effects of climate change?! Hmmm? Selah!
