Men’s Fashion at Heineken Lagos Fashion and Design Week

Rita Chioma,

If you must know, we are yet to get over the just concluded Heineken Sponsored, Lagos Fashion and Design Week which took place at Eko Atlantic, Lagos. It was themed: Shaping Fashion’s Future.

During the show that made the African fashion industry standstill, fashion showcases were met with a bigger crowd, increased fashion appetites and loads of brilliant collections.

A diverse array of men’s fashion collections were showcased, some were worth the time and some were just blah.

The collections from Maxivive’s menswear to Clan’s classic collections had some pieces that will never go out of style.

Besides the clothes, their runway focused on pageantry, swag and entertaining the crowd.

Top designer, Mai Atafo combined all the above factors during the showing of his collection. A clear pointer to the fact that he knows that success favours the well groomed man. His designs were fun, versatile and just gentlemanly and that closing dance was just the best. Mai is the fashion swag king.

Just like its name, People of colour (POC)’s collection was bold and daring and made in beautiful colours. There was an easy-going, playful vibe to the collection.

Undoubtedly, the men’s collections were more of a mix and match, giving the audience an idea of the wearability and styling options available with each outfit.

Who says men don’t need to accessorize? Well, fashion has quite evolved and to accessorize their looks, the models wore sandals, some home grown trainers brands, like Xeexs also made a showing while some of them wore long beaded necklaces over their outfits.

Meanwhile, away from the runway to streets, shoes obviously speak louder than words and they had a field day talking about the personality of their wearer.  Slip-ons were common place and our fashion conscious men paired them with statement looks, like they ‘Own A Bank’

While Noble Igwe and Denrele Edun, Denola Grey who practically made it every day to the shows, displayed their fashion ‘bad boy’ side, the likes of Sound Sultan, Enyinaya Nwigwe, Bovi, Bryan Okwara, Yomi Casuals came in like the boss with little or no drama attached to their outfits.

A lot of stylish male celebrities brought their best style game and some were inspirational.
