Nigerian poet, Titilope Sonuga takes Poetry Festival in Slovakia

Nigerian performing poet, Titilope Sonuga is set to be part of this year’s edition of the Ars Poetica Festival in Bratislava, Slovakia.
The poetry festival which is in it’s 15th year will see the Nigerian artiste share her gripping poems and stories as a special guest.
According to the Festival director, Martin Solotruk, Sonuga is ‘one of the most talented international performers and strong voices of contemporary Nigerian poetry’, who ‘giftedly grips the audience and constantly keeps them engaged and excited throughout her performance. When she performs, her beautiful voice, her exceptional delivery, but above all the strength of her poetry make time stand still. ’

Sonuga is an award-winning author, the first poet to appear at a Nigerian presidential inauguration. In 2011, she won the Canadian Authors’ Association Emerging Writer Award for her first collection of poems, Down To Earth. Her second book, Abscess, was published in 2014, and her work has appeared in several publications and been translated into Italian and German. She was an OSIWA Foundation Resident Poet on Goree Island in 2015 and was published in its Soaring Africa anthology with twenty selected poets from across the African continent.
